Another fine day at Chearsley for a friendly vs. Kimble, and another young and inexperienced side up against a more seasoned opposition.

A negotiated toss saw Kimble bat first. In batting friendly conditions, a strong Kimble line-up scored 245 off their 40 overs. There were plenty of highlights in the Chearsley bowling attack - Jamie Wright, playing his first game of the season looked in good form, opening the bowling with pace and bounce and picking up a deserved wicket (5 overs, 1 wicket for 21 runs); Greg Fairhurst bowled a fine spell of swing bowling up the hill (8 overs, 2 wickets for 37 runs); Fred Witcher picked up 3 wickets for 20 runs, and Finn Waters also picked up two wickets. Our fielding was good, including a sharp catch from Olly Tipping on club debut, a deadly run out from the stand-in Sunday skipper, and some excellent wicket keeping from Greg and guest player Joe Campbell.

In reply, 245 was always going to be a big ask with our predominantly bowling dominant line-up. Against a decent Kimble bowling attack, only three players made double figures, with Fred top scoring with 26 and Vinnie 23. Jamie 'Badger' Cummings sent the crowd wild with a few elegant strokes on his way to a new PB of 5, but the game ended with a hattrick as we were dismissed for 83 off 25 overs. An enjoyable game played in a good spirit and plenty of promise for the future.
